From Economics Idea to Business: Play Clean Laundry

Our Story:

Student athletes often struggle with having to carry heavy sports bags to and from school, laden with dirty clothes that need to be washed before the next day’s practice or game. I’m one of them. So, when our Economics class was asked to come up with a business idea that solves a problem we personally experience, I thought about ways to tackle the smelly sports clothes hassle. I presented my idea, and it was approved. I got to draft a team from my classmates, and together with Josh Lunder, Mason Davis and Noah Sokol, we created a detailed business plan. We presented our idea to a panel of investors, who shared our enthusiasm and gave us valuable advice. Play Clean Laundry was born, and grew beyond a project to an actual business — one we’re pursuing long after our economics project was graded.

Our Process:

  • After practice, student athletes change into their alternate clothes and put their dirty practice uniforms into the customized, labeled bags we provide, and place them in designated drop-boxes.

  • Our team collects from the drop-boxes and drives the dirty laundry to our partner - a professional laundry company which has the technology and equipment to ensure our loads get washed thoroughly, treated with care, and are ready in time.

  • Each person’s clothes get cleaned, dried and folded. We ensure they are delivered back to school in advance of the next day’s practice, and the labeled bags will be placed in the designated spot on the respective student’s “hook.”

We’d love for you to work with us. You get to lessen your laundry load, help the environment by doing less washing at home, and support a student-run business. Please join us in our pilot phase by clicking the “Laundry Service” button below.
